The choice of bed headboard begins with a question that is often forgotten in the bedroom: what must the headboard do before it starts looking good? We will guide you through fourteen variations that we manufacture and show you how to make your decision.
The headboard is the only part of the bed that you can see from all sides in the bedroom and which takes up the largest continuous surface area on the wall. For this reason, the choice of the bed headboard largely concludes the selection for the entire bedroom — it determines whether the room feels calm or fragmented. At the same time, it has a practical role: your back rests against it when reading, it protects the wall from scuffing and, in the case of continental beds, it visually balances the height of the mattress, which often ranges between 60 and 70 centimetres including the base.
What a headboard in the bedroom actually does
The forehead fulfils three functions simultaneously and each of them has an influence on which model you ultimately choose.
- Visual anchor. The upholstered area with a width of 160 to 200 cm is the largest coloured surface in the bedroom right after the wall. It sets the tone for the entire space.
- Lumbar support. If you read or work in bed, you need a headboard that extends far enough above the mattress and has soft padding, not a thin panel.
- Wall protection. The headboard depth — ranging from 9 to 34 cm in our models — keeps both pillows and people away from the plaster and prevents abrasion.
When you rank these three roles in order of importance, the choice of fourteen models is usually narrowed down to three or four. The rest is a matter of fabric and colour.
Headboard selection: four deciding parameters
Decision-making is fastest when you go through the parameters in this order.
Height and depth of the forehead
The height depends on the mattress height and how high you want the support surface to be. continental beds and the spring box mattress is high, so the low headboard behind it visually disappears. Depth is the second factor that is often underestimated: a headboard with a depth of 9 cm (Cube) takes up significantly less space in a small bedroom than a headboard with a depth of 34 cm in the thickest version (Wagner). In a room with a length of under 380 cm, these are centimetres you will notice every time you walk around the bed.
Stitching and surface structure
The smooth surface is calming, the stitching adds rhythm. Geometric squares and checks (A&G, Square, Cube) work well in modern and minimalist interiors. Buttoned tufted stitching (York, Magnifique) belongs in glamour bedrooms and can handle being combined with velvet. The vertical piano-key style division (Theraphy) is somewhere in between — it adds height without weighing down the room with ornamentation.
Fabric and colour
Velvet accentuates the stitching and shadows, whereas a flatter fabric evens out the surface and creates a calmer look. Practical note: the darker and more matte the surface, the less visible dust particles are, but the more pet hair and fur stand out.
Alignment with the rest of the squad
Cello, sprung mattress, bedside tables i bench at the foot of the bed can be upholstered in the same fabric with us. You don't have to choose everything in the same shade — it often works better when the headboard is a shade more prominent and the rest of the set fades into the background.

What kind of front goes with what kind of interior
A simplified guide that we use most frequently in the showroom:
- Minimalist bedroom with light walls - Cube, Bergen or Elegra. Small depth, clean surface, no extra ornamentation.
- Modern interior with a bolder design — Square, A&G or Figaro. The stitching adds texture, but holds the geometry.
- Glamour bedroom with velvet and gold details — York, Magnifique or Wagner. Deep buttoning and shaped sides can also handle more ornate accessories.
- Classic or romantic interior — Magnum, Pegasus, Lounge. Softer lines without excessive decoration.
Dimensions and installation: what to think about before ordering
We make our headboards to measure to fit the width of the bed, so dimensions are not an issue. There are rather three things worth considering.
- Width. The headboard can match the width of the bed, or extend beyond it to include the space for bedside tables. The latter option turns the headboard into a dominant wall panel.
- Attachment. The headboard either rests against the sprung base or is anchored to the wall. Wall mounting is more stable and allows the headboard to be positioned higher above the mattress.
- Access to the bedroom. For wide headboards and narrower doorways or spiral staircases, check the dimensions beforehand — an upholstered panel cannot be bent.

When it's worth coming to feel the forehead
You cannot reliably judge the fabric colour or stitching depth from a photograph — both change depending on the lighting in the room.
